Intensive Lessons

4049 views 13 Updated on 09/06/2021

What are intensive lessons?

‌‌Intensive lessons are the same are scheduled lessons except that you take three or more lessons in a week. This may be over a single week or over a few weeks.‌‌

What intensive packages do you offer?

‌‌We offer intensive lessons in packages of five, ten and fifteen.‌‌

The rates are the same as for scheduled lessons. So for example five lessons are the same rate whether you take those lessons one a week (scheduled lessons) or one a day for a week (intensive lessons).‌‌

When do you run intensive lessons?

‌‌We run intensive lessons every week of the year. You can start at any time – subject to availability.‌‌ At the moment the next available intensive courses are available from the end of July. However you may start now with one or two lessons a week.

Where do you run intensive lessons?

‌‌We usually run these at our City location.‌‌

However, we may sometimes run them at our Covent Garden location in the mornings.‌‌

How far in advance should I book?

‌‌We recommend booking intensive lessons as far in advance as possible – especially for popular times of the year like mid-terms, Christmas, Easter and Summer.‌‌

This is because the closer to the time that you book the lower availability will be and the less likely we can keep you with a single instructor.‌‌

Can I start an intensive next week?

‌‌It’s not impossible. We will do our best. But it may mean more than one instructor and a mix of days and times.‌‌

Do I have to start on a particular day?

‌‌No, you can start any weekday.‌‌

Do I have to keep the same time throughout?

‌‌No. We would keep you to a particular time band eg all mornings so that you have the same instructor throughout. But within that time band you can have different days and times.‌‌

Should I book all my lessons in advance?

‌‌We highly recommend booking all your lessons in advance. This way your preferred days and times are reserved for you. You can always change them (up to 48 hours before).‌‌

How often can I take lessons?

‌‌As you like! Here are some ideas.‌‌

Five Lessons Over:‌‌

  • one week: a lesson every weekday e.g. Mon Tue Wed Thu Fri
  • two weeks: a lesson every other weekday e.g. Mon Wed Fri Mon Wed

‌‌Ten Lessons Over:‌‌

  • two weeks: one a day Mon to Fri and again Mon to Fri
  • one month: two/three a week

‌‌Fifteen Lessons Over:‌‌

  • five weeks: three a week
  • three weeks: daily on weekdays

‌‌When are intensive lessons a great idea?

‌‌Intensive lessons are a great idea in certain situations such as:‌‌

  • you have limited time: eg are visiting London from another part of the UK or abroad
  • you are out of time: eg you are off on holiday/have your PADI open water very soon
  • you have time now that you wouldn’t usually have: eg you are on gardening leave or in between jobs

‌‌Intensive lessons are also a good idea if are looking to become confident in the water or overcome a fear of water. This is because intensive lessons allow limited time for any old beliefs/fears to take grip again and you will see results in a short space of time which will keep you motivated.‌‌

When are daily intensive lessons not such a great idea?

‌‌If you live in London, don’t have a deadline (eg an immediate holiday) and are looking to learn/develop a stroke then we’d suggest regular weekly lessons rather than daily intensive lessons.‌‌

The reason for this is that it is good to have time between lessons (a) to fully absorb the material and (b) to practice.‌‌

If you are really keen to totally transform your swimming in a short period of time have a think about two to three lessons a week with matched practice. This typically delivers stronger results than a lesson each day with no practice.
